For one reason or another I have had difficulty obtaining consistent photos from the game cameras the past few months. Mostly a combination of technical difficulties and user error, but really no big deal and we still have managed to get some great photos. So here are some highlight from the past few months.
Predators
Again we had success capturing photos of various predators that seem to be common on the property. Coyote are common, and bobcats are regular visitors. We occasionally get red foxes passing through but I never manage to get any worthwhile images of them other than for identification purposes.
Wild Turkeys
The turkeys are really the most fun to watch. As I have mentioned before, they really show a lot of character on camera. This is especially true of the young flocks that show up in the fall. We have regularly seen this flock most of the season still surviving, though their numbers have dwindled a bit.
The Youngsters
We get plenty of high quality, daytime photos of the young deer that use the property. Again, they are fun to watch and often linger for several minutes in front of the camera providing a glimpse into their lives.
The Injured Buck
This buck showed up for several weeks on a few of the cameras. He is a nice looking deer with a significant injury to his rear right leg. The wound is open and the cause of the injury is unknown. It is also unknown whether or not the deer is still around.
The Monsters
There are several deer on property that are simply high quality deer. A few of them we really only see at night while others surprisingly do show up during the daytime. A few have even been seen while we are in the stand. I actually have 25 minutes of cell phone video of the large buck with side kickers as he walked around my stand. I did not shoot him as I made an arrangement with the property owner on a few of those larger deer. Still quite the experience.
Unusual Antlers
More so than anytime in the past it seems we captured many images of deer with unusual antlers. I find these deer amusing and always wonder what causes these variations.
Golf? Really?
This photo was snapped captured by one of the cameras while I was golfing. I actually don’t much enjoy golfing and am terrible with the clubs, but once a year I play in a tournament with some friends and its usually a great time. However, to see these 3 deer hanging out in front of our stand for almost 30 minutes it puts a little sting into that round of golf.
Going Forward
I’m not entirely certain I will be able to continue adding photos on a monthly basis like I try to do. I really enjoy monitoring the game cameras and seeing the wildlife in action, so hopefully it works out. So for now at the end of 2019, I will leave you with one close up image of a nice whitetail buck coming in for a closer look. Happy New Year!
